The UniCam MT-RJ connector is a small form factor duplex (two-fiber) connector. It was designed to meet the fiber
optic industry’s request for a new interface technology that is significantly lower in cost and size than the SC duplex
interface.
Due to the size of the SC duplex connector, the port density on electronics is only half that of RJ-45 copper connectors.
The small MT-RJ connector interface can be spaced the same as copper, effectively doubling the number of fiber ports.
The net effect is a drop in the overall price per fiber port, making fiber-to-the-desktop solutions more competitive when
compared to similar copper solutions.
The MT-RJ connector uses a familiar RJ-type latching mechanism found in copper systems, with the MT-RJ latch being
inherently snag-proof. It also allows maximum density on both passive and active equipment. Audible and tactile feedback
is achieved when the connector is properly inserted into an adapter or transceiver. The UniCam MT-RJ connector uti-
lizes the same reliable, proven no-epoxy/no-polish technology as all other Corning Cable Systems’ UniCam connectors.
The MT-RJ connector performs equally well for multimode and single-mode applications. Performance is compliant with
ISO/IEC 11801. It has a single ferrule that reduces the time and complication of assembly since both fibers can be
installed at the same time.
