The C-MAC FC8001 OPTO-FireTM transceiver range is based on a high performance ruggedised optical interface
from
Ultra Communications Inc. which is qualified and operational in space*. The product,
manufactured in the UK is intended for space, military and other harsh environment applications for airborne and
land based systems. It will be a fully qualified product under MIL-PRF-38534 and will be supplied against a DSCC
SMD (Standard Microcircuit Drawing).

The product can be configured as a single, dual or quad transceiver with channel data rates of up to 2.5 Gbps for
bi-directional optical data communications over multimode ribbon fibre links up to 600 m in length.
The transceiver performs the electrical-to-optical and optical-to-electrical conversions for parallel optic data trans-
mission and can have up to four transmit channels and four receiver channels operating over independent fibres
within a single cable.
The transceiver operates through an extended temperature range as well as thermal cycling, shock, vibration,
humidity, salt fog and radiation.
The OPTO-FireTM mounts to a PCB via standard 20 mil (0.5 mm) pitch flex or lead frame. It features a pigtailed rib-
bon fibre interface with a male MTP connector. Custom pigtail configurations and connectors are available on
request.
Built-in test (BIT) and diagnostic monitoring is accomplished through a digital serial interface. BIT features include:
Per channel Transmit Signal Strength Indicator (TSSI) - optical measurement of transmitted power
Per channel Receiver Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) - optical measurement of received power
Fault status, VCSEL bias, and temperature
