The MC92400 ATM Cell-Switching Engine (ACE) is a modular component for implementing high-perfor-
mance, cost-effective, feature-rich ATM switching. The switch fabric consists of a shared bus and connected
switchports (each using one ACE). Switchports are capable of supporting 155 Mpbs line rates and are inter-
connected by a shared bus capable of 2.4 Gpbs of throughput. In a symmetrical configuration, sixteen 155
Mbps switchports may be used, while in an asymmetrical configuration, using lower speed interfaces, up to
21 switchports are supported on the shared bus. The shared bus has redundancy features for high availability
systems. Each switchport supports per-VC queuing, TM 4.0, fault detection and up to 8 physical interfaces.
