XRD9814/16 CIS S/H Line Clamp
APPLICATION BLOCK DIAGRAM
The XRD9814/16 has a programmable mode for S/H which is ideal for interfacing with CIS
image sensors. This application brief describes a line-by-line clamp function. For DC Coupled
Input applications, see AB306. The gain and offset DACs in the XRD9814/16 are independent
and offer a wide range for signal conditioning. Figure 1 is a block diagram of the XRD9814/16
interfacing with a CIS in an AC coupled line clamp mode.

Application Note:
INTRODUCTION
The XRD9814/16 is designed for CIS based Multi Function Products (MFP), Flatbed
Scanners, Film Scanners and Gray Scale Scanners. Most CIS image sensors do not require
AC coupled inputs, for DC coupled inputs see AB306. However, some CIS modules have a
DC offset larger than the offset capabilities of the AFE. In these cases, AC coupled inputs
are necessary. The input capacitor naturally droops over time which can be adjusted in the
digital domain. This application brief describes a CIS Line Clamp Mode.

The S/H Line mode clamp is used to DC restore AC coupled CIS inputs which do not utilize
CDS. For CIS (non-inverting) modes, the input is clamped to 0.7V. The input clamp is enabled
only at the beginning of the line using LCLMP.
