Enhanced IBM-Type Cabling System
As LAN speeds and their operating frequencies increase, the original
Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) specifications needed to be extended to
handle these higher frequency transmissions. A new enhanced cabling
system, consisting of a new data connector, patch cords, cable assem-
blies and patch panels has been put together by Thomas & Betts to meet
these extended specifications.
External strain reliefs were engineered to supplement the existing inter-
nal strain relief. This easy to install, threadless design allows the user to
accommodate various smaller diameter STP cables being offered on the
market today and gives them a high confidence level that the cable will
have sufficient strain relief. (see page 5)
The new T&B Enhanced Data Connector is the focal point of the new
enhanced system. This connector is still specified by ANSI/IEEE 802.5
for the media interface; however, it has been improved to comply with the
new TIA 568A connector specification. This new connector specification
is specifically for high performance data rate applications utilizing 150
Ohm Type A STP cables and connectors.
Connector
The new enhanced 037-600-53, is equivalent to IBM part number
60G1060 Type B connector. No additional steps are needed to install the
Enhanced Data Connector. The additional shielding between contact
pairs results in NEXT and Insertion Loss measurements that meet or
exceed the 568A requirement for frequencies up to 300 MHz.
