T7230A Device Advisory for Version 1.0 and 2.0 of the Device
Introduction
This advisory applies to the T7230A device and includes errata to the June 1997 T7230A Primary Access
Framer/ControllerPreliminary Data Sheet (DS96-007TIC) and design issues in migrating from the T7230.
Advisory Items
1. A microprocessor write to register, PR11, may reset the device. Enabling any feature in this register is
unreliable. Some of the disabled features include the concentration highway interface (CHI) open collector
mode, the associated signaling mode (because the highway cannot be set to run with a 4.096 MHz clock),
and full system loopback.
2. Updated timing diagram and timing characteristics for the Motorola* microprocessor interface,
Figure 20 on page 69 of the T7230A preliminary data sheet, are shown in Figure 1 and Table 1 of this
advisory.
3. The T7230A concentration highway interface (CHI) timing diagram and timing characteristics are defined in
Figure 2, Table 2, and Table 3 of this advisory.
4. The unframed-auxiliary test pattern described in the Transmit Line Test Patterns section of the T7230A
preliminary data sheet, item 2 on page 58, does not exist.
5. The 80-pin TQFP package is not available.
6. The microprocessor interface timing should be reviewed when migrating from the T7230.
7. The T7230A does not freeze the received signaling when a frame error occurs or an out of frame condition
exists. The omission of this feature needs to be considered when migrating from the T7230.
