This specification defines the MultiMediaCard related functions of the MultiMediaCard controller. It
defines the architecture of the MultiMediaCard adapter reference implementation. This architecture
describes the functions needed to access MultiMediaCards. The goal is to define the MultiMedi-
aCard adapter functions independent from their implementation in hard- or software. The set of
functions is divided into encapsulated units; some of them are optional and can be omitted. The
result will be a tool box of functions, which may be used to implement the units in soft- or hardware
or at least to use it as a reference guide to understand the handling of cards. The implementation of
the MultiMediaCard adapter depends on the overall architecture of the MultiMediaCard system (and
thereby on the application). A powerful microprocessor may include the MultiMediaCard controlling
tasks also and require no additional hardware.
