L64020
Single Chip DVD Decoder
Preliminary Datasheet
The L64020 is an integrated, low-cost decoder primarily for use in DVD
decoding systems that are based on the MPEG-2 and Dolby Digital
(formerly AC-3) algorithms.
The L64020's versatility allows it to be used in a variety of applications
that include, for example, DVD, digital TV, set-top boxes, and PC-based
DVD. Its ease of use enables system manufacturers to design the next
generation systems, today.
The L64020 builds upon LSI Logic's proven MPEG-2 A/V decoder, the
L64002, with features to enhance performance, such as Dolby Digital,
true video letterboxing, and Subpicture Unit (SPU) decoding, while
maintaining low host processor overhead and low system cost. The
L64020 receives coded audio, video, and private data and produces
decoded audio and video outputs with subpicture graphics overlay. The
L64020 input/output interfaces are optimized for low-cost integration into
a DVD system (stand-alone or PC-based) or set-top box. The DVD
System block diagram in Figure 1 shows how the L64020 is used in a
DVD system.
