Broken Link/Open GOP allows the skipping of B pictures in an open
GOP. The search for next GOP command causes the decoder to skip bits
in the bitstream until it nds the next GOP or sequence header. During
the search, the display is automatically frozen on the last displayed eld.
The decoder automatically enables its internal rate control mechanism
and stalls if reconstruction is about to overwrite B pictures in SDRAM that
have not been displayed. The host can force rate control on for all
pictures (I, P, and B). This is useful in trick modes when the host is
changing the address of the pictures in SDRAM to be displayed
dynamically.
When the decoder detects a sequence end code, it interrupts the host
and displays any decoded anchor (I and P) pictures and freezes the last
frame on the display until the next sequence start code is detected. This
may be used in situations like displaying still images.
Audio Decoding
The L64020 integrates an MPEG (Musicam) and Dolby Digital audio
decoder with support for Linear PCM audio. It can decode two channels
of MPEG audio Layer I or Layer II over the full range of compliant bit
rates and sample rates. It also can decode 5.1 channels of Dolby Digital
and downmix this information to two channels of audio output over the
full range of compliant bit rates and sample rates. The audio decoder
uses the same memory as the video decoder for its channel buffers,
which eliminates the need for extra SDRAM found in other nonintegrated
audio solutions.
