Multiread Cycle with Repeat-Start Condition – The steps in a
multiread cycle with a repeat-start condition, Figure 3.6, are:
Step 1.
The master starts the cycle by issuing a start condition.
Step 2.
The master transmits the 7-bit slave address.
Step 3.
The master sets the R/W bit to 0, to indicate a write cycle.
Step 4.
The addressed slave acknowledges reception of the slave
address by driving SDA LOW in the ACK cycle.
Step 5.
The master sends the 8-bit address.
Step 6.
The addressed slave acknowledges reception of the address by
driving SDA LOW in the ACK cycle.
Step 7.
The master issues a repeat start condition.
Step 8.
The master transmits the 7-bit slave address.
Step 9.
The master sets the R/W bit to 1, to indicate a read cycle.
Step 10. The addressed slave acknowledges reception of the slave
address by driving SDA LOW in the ACK cycle.
Step 11. The slave starts transmitting the data.
Step 12. The master generates an acknowledge during the ACK cycle.
Steps 11 and 12 repeat as long as the master wants to read consecutive
addresses.
Step 13. When the last register is read, the master does not generate an
acknowledge during the ACK cycle.
Step 14. The master terminates the cycle by issuing a stop condition.
