Introduction
This chapter describes the system interface and features supported by
the L64007 MPEG-2 transport demultiplexer. The chapter contains:

System
Overview
LSI Logic’s L64007 MPEG-2 DVB and JSAT compliant 32 PID transport
demultiplexer integrates all audio, video, and data service MPEG-2 trans-
port layer demultiplexing functions on a single chip. The L64007 is suit-
able for both digital satellite and cable TV set-top applications, and
complies with the international standard ISO/IEC 13818-1 MPEG-2 sys-
tems specication.
The L64007’s system functionality permits low-cost implementation in a
set-top box. This transport demultiplexer integrates on one chip all trans-
port functions and ltering to support audio, video, and system data. The
32 programmable PIDs and the hardware section ltering architecture
complies with all relevant DVB specications.
The very extensive, exible, and generalized hardware section ltering
scheme is not only a superset of the standard MPEG2 section ltering
scheme but also covers most of the European and Japanese service pro-
viders’ specic ltering requirements. For each incoming section, 12
bytes (including the section header) can be matched with up to 32 pre-
programmed patterns in parallel. Each of these 32 patters is 12 bytes
long and has an associated 12-byte bit-for-bit on/off mask. This section
ltering scheme is independent of, and in addition to, the basic PID
selection process.
The built-in clock recovery logic allows for accurate locking and tracking
of selected Program Clock Reference (PCR) with very high accuracy.
The L64007 also features a robust scheme to detect and handle errors,
