implement a more sophisticated digital lter (such as a statistical median
lter) on the FErr values to eliminate jitter spikes.
The L64007 helps the host processor nd the original channel data rate
by providing a 26-bit bit/byte transport counter (the Byte Count Register
[BCR]) to lter out some of the jitter noise. The BCR stores the number
of bytes that the L64007 receives between two consecutive PCRs. The
Transport Rate Counter (TRC) counts the number of bits, and this value
is transferred to the BCR when the PCR is extracted. TRC is then reset
to zero. The host processor can use this information and PCR values to
extrapolate the intended transport rate of the data transmitted by the
upstream encoder. In principle, the difference between the intended rate
and the actual rate is the jitter noise.
Figure 2.10 shows the sampling of PCR, LMC, and FErr values in the
time domain.
